Your mare, truck, trailer and you get to stay home, conveniently saving time, wear and tear on equipment, allowing the accomplishment other tasks, and alleviating possible injury to either mares or foals.

You can’t haul your mare for what we can come to you and perform the process for.

Many older mares do not take kindly to being moved around. Their friend is not there, they fret and worry about their new situation. Being able to stay home increases the chance that these older mares could conceive and produce a embryo.

Some appropriate situations for the use of embryo transfer:

Late foaling mares, the only other option is to miss a year. The late foaling mare may be left open while a recipient mare carries her foal. The next breeding season may then be started early, even before the recipient mare foals.

Badly lame / crippled mares for obvious reasons.

Older reproductively sound broodmares to potentially extend their producing future. Pregnant, out in the pasture, looks like a pretty easy life for a broodmare. However, the stress from repeated pregnancies and age add up over the years and take their toll. Embryo transfer will more than likely, extend the life and income producing future of the older mare.

Mares that conceive readily but are no longer capable of carrying their pregnancy to term. If you haven't, you know someone who has tried just one more time to get that mare to carry a foal. Never mind the fact that she has gotten pregnant the last two or three years and then lost her pregnancy. Added up missing two or three years of foals and the wasted breeding expense make embryo transfer a very effective breeding tool.

Winning show or race mares. For obvious reasons

Determining the best cross for a young mare or stallion in the minimal amount of time.

No babies at the breeding farm. Now this would not be the only reason for considering ET, but a side benefit is babies are never exposed to all the associated foal diseases and congestion inherent with modern day breeding facilities. Hence, lessened sickness and injury because the foal never is exposed to that concentrated environment. Now you have reduced expenses by not having to treat sick foals and a reduced incidence of foal mortality.

Think,
Please breed responsibly. Embryo transfer is an advanced reproductive tool not applicable in all situations and is not a replacement for mares to carry their own foal.
