A 7 day expanded blastocyst in total collapse. The capsule is clearly visible. It is normal for the equine embryonic capsule to shed. This occurs at the time the embryo is between 7-8 days old. Although this may be disturbing to observe, it is of no consequence and will not effect the transfer of the embryo. However, the embryo in the photograph below is best transferred to the specimen jar.
